Augmentin 10mg/5ml is indicated for the management of a variety of infections including infections caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Moraxella catarrhalis, as well as infections caused by Streptococcus pyogenes and Enterococcus faecalis. Augmentin is only indicated in cases when the bacteria cannot be cultured. The use of Augmentin in pediatric patients 2 months of age or less should be limited to those with severe neutropenia. In the elderly, the appropriate dose of Augmentin in children and adolescents is 10 mg/kg/day divided into two or three doses. A dosage of 20 mg/kg/day should be used for adults. Cephalexin should be used with caution in patients with a history of otitis media or who have a history of otitis externa. The administration of cephalexin in elderly patients, particularly those with a family history of anaerobic bacteria, can increase the risk of ototoxicity. The dosage should be adjusted accordingly. Cephalexin is not indicated for prophylaxis against respiratory tract infections. It is contraindicated in patients receiving a beta-lactam-containing antibiotic, erythromycin, or in patients receiving beta-lactam agents. In the management of community-acquired pneumonia in adults, cephalexin should be used with caution in patients with a history of otitis externa.
